A fire broke out with a boat in the Sha'am area on Monday evening around 5.35 pm - according to Khalifa Al-Muhairi, head of the Fishermen’s Association in Ras Al-Khaimah.
An Asian fisherman sustained multiple burns after the steam boat in which he was traveling in the fishing port in Sha'am, 40 km north of Ras Al Khaimah, caught fire.
He added that the fishermen were on the plane when the fire broke out and the two fishermen were working with an Emirati captain heading from the fishing port in Al-Jeer to the fishing port in the Levant.
Recalling the incident, he said that one of the fishermen was riding the boat after lighting it:
"A short circuit ignited the diesel that leaked to the boat as it flared."
Al-Muhairi explained that the boat exploded due to the fire, and one of the fishermen was seriously injured and burned in the accident.
The civil defense in Ras Al Khaimah rushed to the site of the fire, and Al Muhairi said, "The injured fisherman was taken to the nearest hospital for treatment and medical care.
He called for regular maintenance of motor boats to avoid such accidents in the future.
