A couple allegedly defrauded people by offering to provide domestic workers when travel restrictions related to Covid-19 were among the 47 people arrested by Dubai police.
The police seized 40 gangs of various crimes under a process law called "Shadow Crime," and ten women were among 47 Africans arrested.
Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al-Mansoori, the assistant commander of criminal investigations, said the gangs committed crimes ranging from cyber fraud to blackmail, impersonation and theft.
Brigadier Jamal Salem Al-Jallaf, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, said that the police monitored the criminal activities of the gangs on social media and other websites.
The officer said that 46 people complained of losing 3,000 dirhams each, after they were defrauded by a couple and promised them maids despite the closure of the border.
"The police were able to identify the couple and arrested them and confessed to the crime and said that they had taken money from many victims across the country," the officer added.
