The Ministry of Interior clarified that a tweet attributed to the UAE Ministry of Interior warns of a false "closure" and called on residents to obtain information from its official sources and not circulate rumors or news issued by fake accounts.
Through social media on Saturday, September 26, the ministry posted a screenshot of the fake tweet with the "FALSE NEWS" stamp above it.
The fake tweet reads: “(sic) Due to the steady increase in cases of Coronavirus infection, we have decided to impose another lockdown with immediate effect starting from Sunday and we urge everyone to self-quarantine. Stay home and stay safe.”
The ministry called on residents to obtain information from its official sources and not to circulate rumors or news issued by fake accounts.
In April, the UAE Cabinet took a decision to fine 20,000 dirhams for publishing or circulating fake and misleading health information.
