On Thursday, the UAE launched an initiative to allow residency visa holders to return to the country and the country said it was targeting the return of some 200,000 residence owners in cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship.

The UAE had previously agreed to return 31,000 people between 25 March and 8 June.

Khaled Abdullah Belhoul, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said that the next stage will focus on the return of families and the residence holders who wish to return to the UAE must register their application on the smartservices.ica.gov.ae website and then book a flight ticket after obtaining approval from the authority.

The commission added that all returnees to the country must undergo a Covid-19 examination upon arrival, they must remain in quarantine or quarantine for 14 days, pay the expenses and they will also have to download and use an approved tracking application in order for the authorities to ensure their safety.
