The Director of Roads Planning and Design Department at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Eng. Maha Khalifa Hamadeh, stated that the ministry recently completed the activation of the intermittent flash system on 139 traffic lights during the period from May 2019 to the current year, while work is underway on 19 additional traffic lights.
Eng. Maha Hamada added that the success of the intermittent green flash experiment that was implemented in February of last year 2019 helped reduce traffic violations through the results of the study and traffic statistics, as the statistics showed a decrease in the rate of traffic violations, which include speed at the intersection and red light overruns by 10% and an increase in Decline with the application of the intermittent green flash experiment on the remaining intersections.
She explained that the intermittent green flash system was applied to all major streets, most notably Khalifa Al-Kabeer Street, Airport Street, Abdul Rahman Al-Fadil Street, and all traffic lights on Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Street, and King Faisal Street signals.
The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, represented by the Road Planning and Design Department, won the Smart Traffic Solutions Award during the Smart Cities Conference last year for the project to implement the development of the intermittent green flashing system in traffic lights.
