The Ras Al Khaimah Civil Court ordered the driver and his insurance company who ran over a pedestrian and seriously injured him to pay a compensation of 110,000 dirhams.
The driver at fault, a Gulf citizen, was driving at 115 km / h on a road with a speed limit of 80 km / h.
"The speeding driver did not notice the man crossing the road on time and did not slow down his car.
The court confirmed that he ran over the victim who was using the pedestrian crossing.
According to the medical report, the patient suffered a brain haemorrhage, diaphragm and bone injuries and a bruise to the left side of his head.
As a result of the injuries he sustained in the accident, the man was unable to resume his job as a truck driver.
In addition to injuries, the man also suffers from loss of balance, constant pain and severe psychological effects.
However, the defendant claimed that the victim was walking down the road and suddenly tried to cross the road in front of his car.
He claimed that "the victim was not crossing the road from the designated pedestrian crossing."
The civil court said that the traffic court ruling is final and cannot be appealed.
"The injuries mentioned in the medical report proved that the plaintiff was injured in the road accident and the driver at fault exceeded the speed limit on the road."
The civil court ordered the wrong driver and his car insurance company to pay 110,000 dirhams in compensation to the victim for the injuries and disability he suffered as a result of the traffic accident.
