Dr. Ali bin Fadl Al-Buainain, the Attorney General, issued a decision to establish the Office for the Protection of Victims and Witnesses, and the establishment of the office comes within the framework of the application of the Criminal Procedure Law with regard to the procedures and measures it contains to protect against the risks that may befall victims, witnesses, or anyone who provides information in the case, where the office is concerned Examining and implementing orders issued to impose protection by the means established by law, whether based on the factually justified requests submitted, or what the investigator becomes clear of circumstances that call for their imposition, as well as implementing court decisions that impose protection for victims, witnesses or persons close to them.
In addition, the Office for the Protection of Victims and Witnesses was assigned, according to the decision of the Attorney General, to contribute to lifting the psychological and material harm that befalls victims of the crime, and to cooperate with the prosecution of the family, children and trafficking in persons in the implementation of protection and care orders stipulated in the laws on protection from domestic violence and trafficking In persons, especially those related to women and children, which are issued on the occasion of investigations into these types of cases or issued by the court.
While the Attorney General issued a decision to form that office, to be headed by a chief prosecutor and assisted by a number of legal and social researchers.
In this regard, Counselor Haroun Al-Zayani, Head of the Technical Office of the Attorney General, stated that the establishment of the Office for the Protection of Victims and Witnesses comes in response to the requirements of the law and in line with international principles and standards regarding the observance of guarantees and the protection of human rights in order to provide safe conditions for testimony and information in the case, whether in the case. The stage of investigation or trial, as well as completing the role of the Public Prosecution in lifting the effects arising from the crime, and the participation of human rights bodies in helping those affected by the crime financially and psychologically, in accordance with the provisions of the law.
