A long-awaited Indian family vacation has taken a tragic turn after a 47-year-old father and 18-year-old daughter drowned off Al-Heera Beach near Sharjah-Ajman border.
Sources said that Ismail Tzhi Chandamkandil from Kerala State jumped into the water in an attempt to save five children, including his brother's children and two of his daughters, who were struggling in the stormy waters.
While he was able to save all the other children and one of his daughters, a father of three jumped in again to save the older girl. “Unfortunately, he and his eldest daughter, Amal Ismail, were not able to survive,” said Samad Qadamil, a professional employee in Sharjah and Ismail's uncle.
"The family went to the new beach to enjoy swimming. Some of the children were playing in the water while Ismail's wife and sister-in-law and some young children were sitting on the beach." The accident happened at 4:30 pm on Wednesday. Family members alerted police authorities, who immediately dispatched a rescue team to find the father and daughter. "Within 30 minutes, their bodies reappeared in the same area in which they had been drowned," said Cudmale. Rescue operations and Sharjah Police confirmed the incident.
