On Thursday, the municipality said that more than 6,000 workers and singles have been expelled from family-only areas in Sharjah, as authorities stepped up inspections across the emirate.

Thabet Al-Tarifi, Director General of Sharjah Municipality, said that at least 6,561 bachelors have been found living in family-only neighborhoods.

The municipality said in a post on social media that the team uncovered unauthorized sections and illegal electrical connections during recent inspections. The electricity supply to the homes was cut off immediately.

Al-Tarifi added that many other violations were monitored. Some even set up auto repair shops and food stores in their homes. Electrical materials from unknown sources were also stored incorrectly.
