His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, issued a decision to display local products in commercial markets and stores and to make a special division for national agricultural products.
The decision came to reopen shops and commercial markets again, and the aim of this decision is to compete with the local product, the imported products, and to create an area for competition and development in local products.
Various conversations came to a group of farmers that the local domestic product needs new steps, the most important of which is to facilitate the recruitment of labor, especially in the season of planting and harvesting, and to open the way to ensure agricultural engineers and veterinarians on the farms.
They also asked farmers to allocate markets for national products such as Abu Dhabi farmers.
In detail, the food security expert, Dr. Khaled Al-Shamsi, stressed that this decision is important and came at the appropriate time, but it needs a working group to follow up the steps to implement it properly.
He continued, saying:
"The decision guarantees that farmers will not abandon the agricultural profession, because of the losses they incurred as a result of their inability to market their agricultural products, and this appears in the fact that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi hosts more than 24 thousand farms, while it does not work and produces only a few."
He added, "What is pleased with workers in the agricultural sector is the rapid response of decision makers and the decisions that support them, because the decision to allocate divisions for local agricultural products came quickly after the owners of farms presented the challenges facing them through the Emirates Council today, Ramadan."
